Getting started

Can I buy flooring without installation?

Absolutely—we’re happy to supply your flooring and help you choose. Even click LVP and laminate need careful preparation and fitting, so we recommend an experienced installer. A floor is often a 10–15-year decision; getting the installation right helps protect its performance and your investment.

Do you offer in-home estimates?

Absolutely. We arrange in-home estimates in Cambridge, Kitchener-Waterloo and Guelph, and travel to Woodstock, London, Toronto and other areas depending on the project. Send us your location, approximate floor area and plans so we can confirm a suitable visit.

Can you visit for a small purchase or measurements only?

Our site visits are intended for flooring projects you’re considering with Master Flooring. For a small purchase or a measurement-only request, start with photos and rough dimensions or a showroom visit. We’ll suggest the most practical next step while respecting your time and our team’s expertise.

Can you help with colours and interior design?

Yes. Bring your paint, cabinet, countertop or fabric samples and we’ll help coordinate flooring colours, textures and finishes. We want your floor to work with the whole room, not just look good on its own.

Preparing for installation

Who moves furniture and removes the old floor?

Customers normally arrange furniture moving and removal of the old flooring unless these are included in the quote. We can price these services by prior arrangement, but we recommend clearing the rooms before our crew arrives. Confirm removal, disposal and any moving work when you book.

What do I need to move before installation?

Please remove electronics, ornaments, valuables, clothing, laundry and all loose personal items yourself. Our crew does not move these items. Clear floors, furniture surfaces and access routes before installation day—even when furniture moving is included in your quote.

Can you help with toilets and connected appliances?

Yes, by prior arrangement and for an additional fee. We can coordinate removal and reinstallation of toilets and appliances. A professional plumber or gas fitter handles water or gas connections as required; please discuss this work before booking.

What happens if the subfloor needs work?

We give a ballpark allowance for preparation where possible, but hidden problems may only become clear after the old flooring is removed. We’ll explain what needs doing, the cost and the risks of skipping it—including possible loss of warranty coverage. Any extra work and expense need your approval before we proceed.

How long will the installation take?

A single bedroom may take just a few hours. Many straightforward projects progress at roughly one or two floors per day, depending on the product and layout. Tile takes longer because mortar and grout need time to set. Unexpected subfloor repairs can also affect timing; we’ll discuss a realistic schedule for your project.

Who will install my floor?

We have in-house installation crews and also work with subcontractors. Our owners’ hands-on installation experience informs our product advice and the way we approach flooring projects.

Do I need a general contractor?

For a flooring-only project, we can handle the flooring scope from start to finish. A general contractor is often helpful when several trades are involved, because they coordinate the wider renovation and unforeseen conditions.

Payments, warranties & aftercare

How much is the deposit?

Usually around 50% of the project total—it doesn’t have to be exact to the penny. As a small business, we can discuss arrangements for returning customers and payment terms for contractors. Please agree any exceptions with us upfront, before ordering or booking.

Can I return unused flooring?

Generally, unused flooring is not returnable unless it’s a product we stock in our warehouse. Eligible returns depend on the product and manufacturer; restocking fees are commonly 25–50%. Confirm the terms before ordering. If someone else measures or installs your floor, agree quantities and waste with them—we cannot predict another installer’s cutting allowance.

What warranties come with my floor?

Your product comes with its manufacturer’s warranty, and our installations include a one-year Master Flooring workmanship warranty. Our support doesn’t end the next day: if a concern comes up later, contact us and we’ll help understand it. Wear, moisture, movement and care can also affect a floor. Our advice draws on decades of hands-on experience.

How much extra flooring should I order?

As a starting point, we often suggest 5–7% extra for hardwood, laminate and LVP. Tile can need up to 25–30%, depending on tile size, pattern and room layout. Your installer should confirm the allowance—even when we measure the space, their cutting and fitting approach affects the final quantity.

Should carpet be professionally measured?

Yes. Most carpet rolls are 12 or 15 feet wide, so planning seams and the direction of the carpet matters. Professional measuring helps avoid an expensive shortfall or unnecessary waste.

Should I keep leftover flooring?

We recommend keeping one or two boxes for future repairs. Having the original product on hand can make replacing a damaged board much easier, especially if the colour or collection is later discontinued.

Do you price match?

We consider price matching written estimates from direct flooring-store competitors. Bring us the quote so we can compare the same product and scope of work. Liquidators, clearance outlets and similar sellers are excluded.

How should I clean my new flooring?

Use the manufacturer’s instructions for your specific product. Different floors need different care; ask us for the relevant care information rather than assuming one cleaner suits every floor.
